Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said, the media of neighboring countries is spreading lies. Request to you – do not give false news.
The neighboring country gets an advantage in this. Our country’s media has a good reputation, but the media of neighboring countries does not have any. They spread lies more. And you (journalists) can counter this.
He said these things to journalists after exchanging views with law enforcement agencies at the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Media Center in Dampara on Tuesday (November 19) afternoon.
Calling for catching mistakes, Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, “It is not that we do not make mistakes. If we make mistakes, we will catch them. I have one request, do not give false news. Do not say that which did not happen.
The Home Affairs Advisor said that rumors are being spread about a ship coming from Pakistan recently, saying, “This ship came from the Middle East. It came from there and went to a country. From there, it came to our country. Are ships from any country banned from entering our country? Are we captives to anyone who will serve only them? My country is above all. Dates, onions, potatoes—these are needed during the upcoming Ramadan. Should we not allow these to come? Those who are spreading these are our enemies.” In response to a question from journalists regarding various cases after the fall of the government, the Home Affairs Advisor said, “The government is vigilant so that no one is harassed in fake cases. We have advertised this in various media. If there is an actual case, you are supposed to be arrested. Have any of those who have such cases been arrested? The police, RAB, Army, Ansar did not file the case. The public did. That is why you are not a victim of any harassment, for which we should thank you even more. Earlier, the police used to file fake cases. They used to give 10 names and 50 anonymous accused.” Now people are giving 10 names and 50 anonymous ones.
Regarding the law and order situation, the Home Affairs Advisor said, when was the law and order situation good? You say? This puja went well, the puja went well. Today we held a meeting to exchange views. Various problems were discussed with them in the presence of members of different forces. There was a discussion on how to further improve the law and order situation. We want your help and cooperation in this regard. The situation will definitely improve. The morale of the police has increased than before. It is bad when the graph goes down. But the graph is slowly going up. Morale does not change in two days. It takes some time. If you do not give it time, it is not possible. I do not have anything like magic that will make everything happen just by saying it.
Referring to the police members who did not join as criminals in the eyes of the law, he said, those who did not join are criminals in our eyes. They will definitely be brought under the law.
At least 50 armed men have been identified in Chittagong in the July killings. But the CMP has arrested only one of them and the RAB has arrested four. The rest could not be arrested. Even weapons could not be recovered, on the information given by the journalist, the Home Affairs Advisor immediately ordered the Police Commissioner and the RAB commander to make a list of them and arrest them.
Police IGP Mainul Islam, RAB DG Additional IGP AKM Shahidur Rahman and senior officials of various law enforcement agencies were present at the time.
