The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has taken stern disciplinary action against senior leader Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, suspending him from all party posts, including his position as Vice Chairman. This decision was officially announced on Tuesday, July 29, through a press release signed by Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
According to the press statement, Gias Quader Chowdhury was recently involved in instigating internal violence and political unrest within the party in his local area. Despite repeated warnings, he allegedly continued to engage in provocative activities that disrupted party discipline. As a result, his primary membership and all organizational responsibilities have been suspended as per the party’s constitution.
Copies of the suspension letter were sent to BNP Vice Chairman Advocate Ahmad Azam Khan, Chattogram Divisional Organizational Secretary Mahbuber Rahman Shamim, Assistant Organizational Secretary Habibul Islam Habib, and Barrister Mir Helal Uddin.
The disciplinary action came in the wake of a violent clash earlier on Tuesday afternoon in the Sattarghat area of Raozan, Chattogram. Two factions of BNP supporters confronted each other, leaving several people, including Chattogram North District BNP Convenor Golam Akbar Khondkar, injured. His vehicle was vandalized, and a motorcycle was set on fire during the altercation.
Supporters of Khondkar alleged that the attackers were followers of Gias Quader Chowdhury.
Following the incident, the BNP’s central office swiftly dissolved the Khondkar-led North District Convening Committee by the evening of the same day, signaling a serious internal reshuffle within the party’s regional structure.
