US President Donald Trump has called himself the ‘King’. In a post on social media, he wrote, “Jam pricing is over. Manhattan and all of New York are saved. Long live the King.”
The New York State government in the United States charges drivers $9 tolls on busy roads in Manhattan to help pay for traffic congestion and public transportation reforms. Trump is going to revoke the federal government’s permission to do so. If it goes into effect, drivers will no longer have to pay tolls on busy roads in Manhattan. Another purpose of this toll is to discourage drivers from driving into Manhattan. There are other busy places, including Times Square, where many people come to visit or do other things.
Trump has implied that removing the tolls will save drivers money, suggesting that he has saved them financially. He also called himself a king.
Trump’s post on Truth was shared from the White House’s X account, which has sparked fresh criticism.
Trump’s Transportation Secretary, Sean Duffy, has written to New York Governor Kathy Hochul, expressing the president’s objection to charging tolls from drivers. He called it “outdated and immoral.” The Transportation Secretary also said that ordinary people and small businesses are being harmed by these tolls.
However, the New York governor said that since they imposed the toll, traffic jams have decreased dramatically and ordinary people are able to get to work faster. The governor has also criticized President Trump. He said, “We are a country of the rule of law. We are not a country ruled by a king. We will see you in court.”
