The government has recommended policy-level approval for a proposed agreement between Fertiglobe Distribution Limited of the United Arab Emirates and the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) to import urea fertilizer.
This recommendation was made during the 29th meeting of the Economic Affairs Advisory Council, held on Tuesday at the Cabinet Division conference room in the Bangladesh Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Economic Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister.
The agreement, to be signed under a government-to-government (G2G) arrangement, aims to facilitate the import of urea fertilizer from Fertiglobe to meet Bangladesh’s growing domestic demand for agricultural inputs during the 2025–26 fiscal year.
Once approved, this deal will play a key role in ensuring a stable supply of urea, which is essential for the country’s agricultural productivity.
