After being shut down for 12 days, the special train on the Cox’s Bazar route from Chattogram was restarted at 7 am on Wednesday (June 12). The special train reached Cox’s Bazar iconic railway station at 10:20 am.
The same train leaves Cox’s Bazar for Chattogram at seven o’clock in the evening. On the occasion of Eid, this train will run till June 24, said the railway officials.
The railway authorities launched the special train on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar route on April 8. It was closed on May 30. The train was stopped due to engine and locomaster problems. Allegedly, this special train was stopped due to pressure from the bus owners Secretary General of Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association Mozammel Haque Chowdhury made this complaint.
En route, the train stops and transports passengers at Sholshahar, Janalihat, Patia, Dohazari, Satkania, Chakaria, Dulahajara and Ramu stations. There are 438 seats in 10 compartments. The minimum fare is Tk 45 for luxury class seats and Tk 185 for first class seats in special trains. However, this fare till Cox’s Bazar is 185 and 340 taka respectively. Bus fare from minimum 420 to maximum 800 taka. 54 thousand 814 passengers were transported by this train in just 52 days before its closure. The income is 1 crore 4 lakh 41 thousand taka. The average daily income is two lakh taka.
