US President Joe Biden said, ‘My national security adviser has told me that we are very close to a ceasefire in Gaza. We hope that the cease-fire will be announced by next Monday.
He said this during an exchange with reporters in New York City on Monday.
Biden made the comments at a time when Qatar is acting as a mediator between Israel and Hamas over the Gaza issue.
Earlier, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said progress had been made in talks to free the Israeli hostages in the past few days, but it was unclear whether Hamas would accept the latest proposed deal.
