Canada is set to sharply reduce its immigration intake for the first time in years. This will lead to significant changes in the Canadian government’s policy in its bid to stay in power.
According to a source related to the Canadian government, Canada will take 395 thousand immigrants (permanent residents) in 2025. Next year i.e. 2026, 3 lakh 80 thousand immigrants will be taken. And the number of immigrants will decrease to 365 thousand in 2027.
The source said that Canada has taken 485 thousand immigrants this year. That is, the number of immigrants to Canada in the next three years will decrease a lot compared to this year.
Sources also said that in 2025, the number of immigrants to Canada as temporary residents will decrease by 30,000 to about 300,000.
These immigration numbers were first reported by the National Post.
Canada has long been considered a desirable destination for immigrants. The country is also relatively liberal in accepting immigrants. However, over the years, the debate on immigration has increased in the country.
Many blame immigrants for everything from the country’s housing crisis to the rising cost of living to poor health care.
