Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport experienced significant flight disruptions on Thursday (March 5) due to the ongoing security situation in the Middle East, with 34 flights canceled on the day alone. Over the past six days, a total of 210 flights have been canceled.

The information was confirmed by Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority (BEBICHOK) Public Relations Officer Kausar Mahmud.

Flights Affected

Among the canceled flights on Thursday were:

  • 4 Qatar Airways flights

  • 4 Kuwait Airways flights

  • 4 Jazeera Airways (Kuwait) flights

  • 10 Air Arabia (Sharjah, UAE) flights

  • 4 Emirates flights

  • 2 US-Bangla flights

  • 2 Gulf Air (Bahrain) flights

  • 4 Flydubai (UAE) flights

Kausar Mahmud explained, “Since February 28, several Middle Eastern countries including Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan have closed their airspace due to the escalating security situation.”

Ongoing Flight Disruptions

According to BEBICHOK, the number of canceled flights at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the past days are:

  • February 28: 23 flights

  • March 1: 40 flights

  • March 2: 46 flights

  • March 3: 39 flights

  • March 4: 28 flights

The cancellations reflect the broader impact of regional instability on international air travel, affecting passengers traveling to and from the Middle East. Airlines are closely monitoring the situation and adjusting schedules accordingly to ensure safety.
