The National Citizen Party (NCP) organized a “July March and Street Rally” in Porsha Upazila of Naogaon on Sunday as part of its nationwide program marking the second anniversary of the July Mass Uprising and the month-long campaign titled “July Awakening to Build the Nation.”
The event was held to press demands for a national referendum, greater employment opportunities, and stronger border security.
The procession and rally began at around 5:00 p.m. in front of the Shaheed Minar at Saraigachi Zero Point. The program was chaired by Ghulam Mostafa Kamal, president of the NCP’s Porsha Upazila unit.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, NCP Joint Convener Nasir Uddin Patwary praised local mango growers after observing the extensive orchards along the roads in Porsha. During his speech, he also criticized the governance of the previous Awami League administration, alleging that Bangladesh’s sovereignty had been undermined during its tenure.
Patwary claimed that although Bangladesh’s territory had not been occupied, foreign influence had expanded into the country’s political, economic, and social spheres. He also referred to several past incidents, including violence involving worshippers at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, the killing of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officers, and the operation at Shapla Chattar, alleging that those events reflected political repression under the previous government.
He further alleged that the current government has failed to fulfill its commitments made before assuming office, including promises to ensure public safety, establish good governance, and combat corruption.
Several central and regional NCP leaders also addressed the rally. Among them were Monira Sharmin, convener of the party’s Women’s Wing; Farhad Sohel, a member of the Youth Wing; Saif Mostafiz, General Secretary of the National Youth Wing; Rajshahi Divisional Organizing Secretary Imran Imon; Naogaon District Convener Mahfuzur Rahman Rubel Chowdhury; and Porsha Upazila Convener Abdullahil Mamun Shah.
Leaders and activists from different levels of the party attended the event.
