Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has reaffirmed that ensuring the welfare of the people remains the government’s highest priority, stressing that an elected administration has a responsibility to stand beside citizens during times of hardship and disaster.
Speaking on Saturday at the inauguration of a project to build 100 homes for flood-affected families in Pekua Upazila of Cox’s Bazar, the minister said the government’s policies are guided by the principle, “Bangladesh First, People Before Power.” The housing initiative is being implemented by the Shamsul Haque Foundation to support families displaced by recent floods.
The minister said the government’s assistance extends beyond rebuilding homes, with comprehensive support planned for farmers, fish growers, and livestock owners whose livelihoods have been affected by the flooding.
He noted that farmers who have lost seedbeds, saplings, or cultivated land will receive essential agricultural inputs, including seeds and fertilizers, to help restore production.
Salahuddin Ahmed also announced that authorities will conduct damage assessments in the fisheries and livestock sectors to determine the extent of losses before providing targeted financial and material assistance.
In addition, he said the government has taken steps to quickly repair flood-damaged infrastructure, including schools, colleges, madrasas, roads, and other public facilities, to help affected communities return to normal life as soon as possible.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to the public, the home minister said it will continue working to support citizens during crises while ensuring justice and equitable assistance across the country.
