The International Cricket Council (ICC) has postponed its scheduled three-day board meeting in Doha due to escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The important meeting was originally planned to take place from March 25 to 27 in Doha. However, according to a report by The Telegraph, the decision to delay the meeting was made in light of the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Sources said the ICC is now considering rescheduling the meeting for a later date next month, likely at another venue within the same region. Member countries were formally notified about the postponement on Saturday.
The development comes just a day before the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be played in Ahmedabad, where India national cricket team will face the New Zealand national cricket team.
The postponed meeting was expected to bring together ICC board directors, chief executives of national cricket boards, committee members, and other top officials to discuss key issues concerning the future of international cricket.
Earlier in February, the ICC had announced Doha as the host city for the meeting, citing the rapid development of cricket in Qatar. The governing body also noted that the sport has been expanding in the country with support from the Qatar Cricket Association and the Qatar Olympic Committee.
