The International Human Rights Commission-IHRC, Bangladesh Chapter has expressed deep concern over the recent killing of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif in the Chittagong court premises.
This concern was expressed in a statement sent by the organization’s Director (Media and Information) Biplob Partha on Thursday (November 28).
The statement was signed by International Human Rights Commission, Bangladesh Chapter President MA Hashem Raju and Executive Director Saifuddin Salam Mithu.
The statement said, “We have observed the incident that took place in the Chittagong court premises on November 26. The incident of the killing of lawyer
Saiful Islam Alif that day is very tragic. We are shocked and express our condolences over this incident. At the same time, we urge the government to take necessary steps to ensure that such incidents do not happen again in the court premises in the future.”
The statement further said that the government should take necessary steps to prevent any group from carrying out communal activities in the wake of the clashes over the killing of a lawyer and the bail not granted to Sammilita Sanatan Jagran Jote spokesperson Chinmoy Krishna Das.
The statement called on all parties to play a restrained and responsible role in maintaining law and order and religious harmony, and said that the government has already taken steps to arrest the criminals. Three cases have been filed at the Kotwali police station in Chittagong, and many involved have been arrested. We must remember that everyone must behave responsibly to protect human rights.
