India’s former Foreign Secretary and former Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla emphasized on visa facilitation between India and Bangladesh.
He said, “When I was the foreign secretary, 5 lakh visas were being issued. Then some simplifications are made. In that case, the number of visas was increased from 5 to 15 lakh. Now it is in 20 lakhs. I think visa should be easily available, so that tourists don’t face any kind of harassment. There is no delay in getting the visa. Efforts are on to increase visas for Bangladesh and that will increase people-to-people connectivity.”
Shringla made these comments while participating in a discussion on ‘India-Bangladesh Cultural and Commercial Relations’ organized by the ‘Indo Bangla Friendship Association’ (IBFA) at a hotel in Kolkata’s Newtown on Friday.
Bangladesh Textile and Jute Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, who was present at the event, said, “India-Bangladesh is a role model of what kind of relationship two neighboring countries can have. So India-Bangladesh relationship that exists today will remain intact. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have strengthened the relationship between the two countries. We will take this relationship forward further.”
