On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Barrister Jaima Rahman, granddaughter of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, received a special award from Mohammed Shahabuddin at a ceremony in the capital.
The award was presented on Sunday (March 8) at Osmani Memorial Auditorium during a national event organized to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women across the country.
At the same ceremony, five women from different divisions were also honored among a group of 39 nominees representing eight administrative divisions of Bangladesh. The award recipients included Bobita Khatun from Khulna, Shamla Begum from Chattogram, Nur Banu Kabir from Rangpur, Nurun Nahar Akter from Mymensingh, and Afroza Yasmin from Dhaka.
In addition, several women from across the country were recognized for their remarkable contributions in different sectors. From the Dhaka division, the honorees include Arifa Begum, Marufa Akter, Nasrin Akter, Mukta Akter, and Afroza Yasmin.
From Rajshahi division, the award recipients are Lata Khatun, Riju Tamanna, Rasheda Begum, Razia Khatun, and Sumaiya Islam. Chattogram division’s honorees include Asma Akter Kona, Begum Tajkera Chowdhury, Bilkis Begum, and Shamla Begum.
From Sylhet division, Kulsum Begum, Amina Begum, Rahima Begum, Kanchan Begum, and Rifat Ara Rifa were recognized. Khulna division’s recipients include Tarana Tabassum, Bobita Khatun, Lutfun Nesa Begum, Sharifa Yasmin, and Razia Khatun.
In Rangpur division, the awardees are Farida Parveen, Rikta Banu, Rasheda Begum, Parveen Akter, and Khandakar Abida Sultana Riya. Barishal division’s recipients include Nilufa Yasmin, Nahid Rumana Mitu, Delowara Begum, Salma Akter, and Rita Brahma.
Meanwhile, from Mymensingh division, Nurun Nahar Begum, Umme Rafiba Jahan, Hasna Hena Bari, Nasrin Begum, and Tahmida were selected for the honor.
Each woman received the award in recognition of her outstanding contributions and unwavering determination in her respective field.
The award program, organized by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, aims to promote greater participation of women in social, economic, and political spheres in Bangladesh. Such recognition is also seen as an important step in highlighting the stories of women’s resilience, leadership, and achievements before the wider public.
