The ‘Mangal Shobhajatra’ organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University on the occasion of Bengali New Year has been renamed ‘Barshavaran Ananda Shobhajatra’.
Kazi Azaharul Islam Sheikh, convener of the New Year Celebration Committee, announced this at a press conference organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts on Friday (April 11).
In a written statement, he said that the procession has been named ‘Barshavaran Ananda Shobhajatra’ with the aim of this inclusive and comprehensive arrangement, under whose umbrella the multidimensional cultural heritage of the country will be reflected. The hopes and aspirations of all classes of people today will be reflected and the true joy of the procession will emerge.
He said that a new and progressive perspective has been created in the culture of Bangladesh in this New Year celebration. People of all languages and cultures living in the same land are going to unite together. This New Year belongs to every Bangladeshi person. This year’s theme is ‘Unity in the New Year, End of Fascism’.
Kazi Azaharul Islam Sheikh said that this year’s event should be understood from a different perspective. Keeping in mind the issues of freedom of speech and culture and freedom of thought, every person in Bangladesh should be given a message to overcome the dark times.
He said that the goal of culture is to build a humane and liberal society or state structure. This year’s Boishakh will be for everyone. All ethnic groups living in our territory have achieved a share in this year’s Boishakh celebration.
He also said that from the mountains to the plains, we will celebrate the New Year together. Through this event, we hope that we will be able to move forward towards the liberal and pure practice of the culture of Bangladesh by breaking away from the narrowness of one-sided cultural practice.
