The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has initiated the process of forming a new Information Commission, with an official gazette notification expected within the next few days.
The development was confirmed in a press release issued by the ministry on Saturday, July 26.
According to the statement, the commission will be established in line with the Right to Information Act, 2009. It will comprise a Chief Information Commissioner and two Information Commissioners. Of the two commissioners, at least one must be a woman, as mandated by the law.
This move comes as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen transparency and ensure citizens’ access to information through an independent and functional commission.
