The 12th parliamentary elections will be held in Bangladesh on January 7, 2024. Now the campaign is in full swing. Awami League-Awami League elections are being held mainly because the major political party of Bangladesh BNP did not participate in the elections. As a result, there are independent candidates against Awami League candidates in most of the parliamentary constituencies. Again, the influential people of Awami League are giving silent support to independent candidates.

There are 121 candidates in the 16 constituencies of Chittagong in the 12th National Assembly elections. Out of the 16 seats, all but 5 will be evenly contested. As a result, Awami League candidates will not be able to win easily.
On the other hand, out of the 16 constituencies of Chittagong, all the constituencies have minority votes ranging from 15 to 35 percent. As a result, all the candidates are trying to attract the minority votes.
Chittagong-1 (Mirsarai): Mahbub ur Rahman Ruhel, son of Awami League presidium member Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, is contesting in this seat with the boat symbol. The former upazila chairman Md. Gias Uddin (eagle symbol) is electing as an independent candidate. Gias Uddin is popular in Mirsarai. Besides, another anti-Musharraf group led by Central Jubo League leader Elite will also support Gias Uddin. As a result, if the vote is fair, Gias Uddin will win, the locals say. But it is true that the fight will be fierce.
Chittagong-2 (Fatikchari): Khadijatul Anwar Soni has become a candidate for this seat. Fatikchari Upazila Parishad Chairman HM Abu Tayab and former student leader Mohammad Shahjahan are contesting against him as independent candidates. Besides, Chairman of Tariqat Federation Najibul Bashar Maizbhandari and Chairman of Bangladesh Supreme Party Saifuddin Ahmed Maizbhandari are electing. Here the main fight will be with boat candidate Soni and independent candidate Abu Tayab. There will be a tight fight in this seat. Common people think anyone can win.
Chittagong-3 (Sandwip): Present MP Mahfuzur Rahman Mitha has become a candidate for this constituency known as Dwip constituency. Doctors leader Dr.Jamal Uddin Chowdhury challenged him as an independent candidate. All groups are united against Mahfuzur Rahman Mita. Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Abdul Awal’s birthplace is Sandwip. So here too the fight will be fierce. But the boat can win.
Chittagong-4 (Sitakunda): M A Mamun has been the candidate of Awami League in this seat. There is no strong candidate against him. Awami League leader Md. Imran is conducting independent elections there.
Chittagong-5 (Hathazari): There is no Awami League candidate in this seat. Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, co-chairman of the Jatiya Party, is making the election here. There is a candidate against him former BNP leader Md. Nazim Uddin (CUCSU VP). Basically they will be a fight between two people. Awami League will lose this seat if it does not work hard for Barrister Anis.
Chittagong-6 (Raozan): Awami League’s candidate for this seat is current MP ABM Fazle Karim. There are no strong candidates here.
Chittagong-7 (Ranguniya): Awami League’s candidate for this seat is Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud. There are no strong candidates here.
Chittagong-8 (Boalkhali and Chandgaon, Panchlaish-Bayezid partial): Solaiman Alam Seth of Jatiya Party is the candidate of 14 parties in this seat. There is no candidate from Awami League. There are two strong independent candidates. One is former chairman of CDA Abdus salam and the other is Bijay Krishan Chowdhury. Independent candidate Abdus salam can win there.
Chittagong-9 (Kotwali): Awami League’s candidate for this seat is Education Deputy Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel. There are no strong candidates here. The boat will win here.
Chittagong-10 (Khulshi, Pahartali, Halishahar): Current Member of Parliament Mohiuddin Bachchu got boat symbol in this constituency. Former mayor Manjur Alam Manju and young Awami League leader Farid Mahmud are running as independent candidates. There will be a tight fight in this seat. But if the vote is fair, former mayor Manjur Alam will win.
Chittagong-11 (Patenga-Bandar): Current MP MA Latif has been nominated for this seat. Councilor Ziaul Haque Sumon is conducting independent elections there. Chittagong Metropolitan Awami League has already supported Suman. As a result Latif may lose here.
Chittagong-12 (Patiya): South district Awami League president Motaherul Islam Chowdhury is the candidate for this seat. Samshul Haque Chowdhury, the current Member of Parliament, is running an independent election there. Even if there is a fight, the boat candidate will win.
Chittagong-13 (Anwara): Awami League candidate for this seat is Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed. There are no strong candidates here.
Chittagong-14 (Chandnaish): The current MP Nazrul Islam Chowdhury is the candidate for this seat. Upazila Chairman Abdul Jabbar Chowdhury is conducting independent elections there. There will be a tight fight in this seat. Independent candidate will win.
Chittagong-15 (Satkania-Lohagara): Awami League’s candidate for this seat is current member of parliament Abu Reza Muhammad Nezamuddin Nadvi. Upazila chairman and businessman MA Motaleb is conducting independent elections. Awami League leaders have united against Nadvi. Here too there will be a bone-to-bone fight. Any candidate can win.
Chittagong-16 (Banshkhali): Awami League’s candidate for this seat is current Member of Parliament Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury. There are independent elections
However, returning officers said that all measures have been taken for fair voting.
Chittagong DC Abul Bashar Md. Fakhruzzaman told Victory News that complaints are being received against many candidates for violating election conduct rules. District Returning Officer, Superintendent of Police, Regional Election Officer and other officials are exchanging views in each upazila.
