Rashed Khan, General Secretary of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, has hinted that another mass uprising may take place in the future to bring about genuine transformation in the state’s governance. He suggested that, unlike now, elderly advisers will not need a “safe exit” when that happens — instead, it will be the current leadership, “who are making constant mistakes,” that will have to seek one.
In a Facebook post published on Wednesday, Rashed Khan shared his critical views on the current state of the interim government and its leadership choices.
He stated, “I don’t believe the elderly advisers have been involved in corruption, nor is there evidence of it. Their main weakness lies in inexperience and a lack of political understanding. Despite being part of the post-uprising government, they have failed to make any real impact — neither did they contribute to the uprising nor ever took to the streets against Hasina’s regime.”
Rashed further accused former student leaders of making a major error by appointing these elderly figures as advisers, calling it a “strategic failure” that prevented meaningful change after the 2024 mass movement. “That mistake is now being acknowledged by the same student leaders who trusted them,” he wrote, adding that the entire nation is now paying the price for that misjudgment.
Predicting another possible people’s movement, Rashed Khan remarked, “If another mass uprising occurs for real structural change, those responsible for the failure of the 2024 movement may have to pay the highest price.”
He went on to add that by that time, most elderly advisers would no longer need a safe exit — “nature will take care of that.” Instead, he claimed, those currently “repeating mistakes” will be the ones searching for safety.
However, Rashed concluded on a cautious note, emphasizing that no one will need a safe exit if the leadership works together over the next five months to implement reforms, ensure justice, and guide the country toward a democratic path through fair elections.
