Bangladesh has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing maritime collaboration with small island developing states (SIDS), emphasizing joint efforts to tackle global challenges in ocean governance and climate resilience.
Speaking at a special event in London, Bangladesh High Commissioner and Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Abida Islam, reiterated Dhaka’s pledge to continue working closely with SIDS nations. The gathering was organized at the Bangladesh High Commission, attended by high commissioners and ambassadors from SIDS member states.
In her address, Abida Islam highlighted the importance of collective initiatives in overcoming maritime and climate-related challenges. She noted that Bangladesh is eager to cooperate with SIDS countries to advance shared goals such as economic growth, maritime security, and climate resilience.
The event also opened new avenues for strengthening partnerships under the IMO framework, fostering greater collaboration between Bangladesh and SIDS nations. Participants praised Bangladesh’s proactive role in promoting sustainable maritime management and its leadership in regional and global ocean-related issues.
Such initiatives reflect Bangladesh’s growing influence in international maritime diplomacy and its commitment to equal and inclusive cooperation with climate-vulnerable developing states.
