The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has arranged a two-day special workshop aimed at orienting its newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) on parliamentary procedures, legislative responsibilities, budget discussions, and the functioning of standing committees.

The initiative comes ahead of the first session of the 13th National Parliament, scheduled to begin on March 12. The training workshop will be held on March 6 and 7 at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan. The program will be inaugurated by party Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Focus on Parliamentary Skills and Governance

According to party sources, the workshop is designed to strengthen MPs’ understanding of their constitutional and political responsibilities. Experienced former bureaucrats, academics, and ex-lawmakers will conduct sessions covering parliamentary norms, the role of ministers in the House, and effective ministry management.

Discussions will also center on ensuring implementation of the party’s election manifesto, prioritizing local development initiatives, monitoring ministry activities, and applying policy measures effectively. Strategies for preventing corruption, promoting good governance, and enhancing transparency in government operations are expected to be highlighted.

Session Breakdown

BNP sources at the Gulshan office said the workshop will be divided into multiple sessions over two days.

On March 6, the first day, two sessions will be held. The morning session, from 10:30am to 12:30pm, will include ministers, state ministers, and advisers. After a lunch break, the second session will run from 2:30pm to 4:30pm, with participation from MPs representing Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Faridpur divisions.

On March 7, the second day, the morning session will include MPs from Dhaka district, Mymensingh, and other parts of the Dhaka division, along with remaining representatives from Faridpur district. The afternoon session will be attended by MPs from Sylhet, Cumilla, and Chattogram regions.

The initiative reflects BNP’s broader effort to prepare its lawmakers for an active and strategic role in the upcoming parliamentary term, with a focus on accountability, legislative effectiveness, and policy implementation.
