Assistant High Commission of India, Chittagong organized a festive reception Thursday (March 7) to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The event was attended by several women leaders from politics, business, academia, media, arts etc.; representatives of socio-cultural organizations, female medical students, and distinguished women from diverse backgrounds.

Minister of State for Finance Waseqa Ayesha Khan MP was the chief guest at the function organized at Khulshi Assistant High Commission premises in Chittagong city.

Waseqa Ayesha Khan in her speech expressed pride in the role and achievements of Bangladeshi women, stressing that Bangladesh has been a role model in women’s empowerment in the past decade as the Government of Bangladesh under the leadership of PM Sheikh Hasina has been taking several progressive steps to create a more inclusive and equitable society.

Welcoming the guests, Assistant High Commissioner Dr. Rajeev Ranjan extended festive greetings and best wishes to the women from all walks of life ahead of International Women’s Day. He also highlighted that India has been at the forefront of advancing women-led development and promoting gender equality. He further underlined that the women and girls of both India and Bangladesh can play a crucial role in further strengthening ties between the two countries.

On this occasion, Chittagong City Corporation Panel Mayor Afroza Kalam, Fhulki Sahagapath Vidyalaya Principal Sheela Momen, Sangeet Bhaban Director Kaveri Sengupta, Dainik Bangla Bureau Chief Daisy Maudud also expressed their views and emphasized the importance of further promoting gender equality.

The students of Odissi And Tagore Dance Movement Centre led by its Director Proma Abonti, a noted Odissi dancer mesmerized the audiences with rejoyistic traditional Indian folk dances.
