Health Minister Dr. Samanta Lal Sen visited the designated place for 100-bed burn and plastic surgery unit in Chattogram.

He visited the place on Saturday (July 6) at 7:30 am.

The minister told reporters that China wants to complete the construction of the building within two years. We also want to start the unit with everything at the same time.

We are moving forward with that plan. The foundation stone of this project will be laid after the Prime Minister visits China.

After the visit, the Minister visited some wards of Chattogram Medical College Hospital and interacted with the doctors.

At that time, when the hospital informed about the fact that the MRI machine was broken for a long time, he expressed surprise and said, “I am not speaking as a student of this medical college, I am speaking as a doctor, as a minister – the position of Chattogram Medical after Dhaka Medical. Here if this machine is broken it is important to fix it. The minister also assured to take quick action to solve this problem.

In the speech of the chief guest in the conference room of Chattogram Medical College Hospital, the health minister said, I have been practicing medicine all my life. I have only been a minister for six months, before that I ran a lot like you (doctor). Chittagong Medical College is my second home. Hospital director, college principal are here. I will make a request, you give me a list; Which work should be done first, which should be done later. I went to the urology ward and saw the pressure of the patient. Patients are coming here from Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Noakhali. I was almost given applications from Chittagong Medical College, especially from Gynecology department. Almost the doctor wants to leave Dhaka. If everyone wants to leave the gynecology department, then how? We are going to make a policy. As per a good policy I am working to give postings in all medical colleges. I have decided not to stay in Dhaka for long. I will stay only for two days. And for the rest of the day I will wander outside.

The minister said, I am sad to say – I went to medical colleges, a government hospital at five in the afternoon and did not find anyone. I have such evidence. Please give me service. I will do what you need. I had a meeting in the ministry last Thursday about the health protection law for you. Working hard to get it through parliament. Protection of doctors, respect for doctors is my top priority. If I keep my doctors well, they will stay in Upazila Health Complex. If I cannot maintain their accommodation, I can never expect service from them. All medical support should be provided for them. Then the patient pressure will be reduced in Dhaka city. I will not give you false assurances. I will say what I can. I cannot solve everything in one day or overnight. If you help me, I can reach the goal.

He said, I often request honorable members of parliament – you should go to your hospitals. Go to the hospital and get yourself checked up. Then the quality of the hospital will increase a lot. I went to a private hospital yesterday. The clinic will run but there will not be a doctor approved in the emergency, there will not be an oxygen cylinder – this is not acceptable. I always say to journalist brothers – it’s not an expedition, it’s an inspection. Meanwhile, the Minister expressed the desire to add a helicopter to the Ministry of Health for emergency use.

Dr. Samant Lal Sen said, I was passing in front of Chamek Hostel today. I said to Mr. DG, that hostel is still there. There are so many boys and girls, it needs to be reformed quickly. At the end of the meeting, the minister said to the questions of the journalists, if we can make all the departments of our medical college hospitals in Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Noakhali self-supporting, then the pressure will reduce here.

Director General (DG) of the Department of Health at the meeting. Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Director of Chittagong Medical College Hospital, Brigadier General Mohammad Taslim Uddin, Principal of the College, Professor Dr. Sahena Akter, District Civil Surgeon Dr. Heads of different departments of the hospital including Elias Chowdhury were present. After the meeting, the health minister visited the medical college and spoke to the students.
