The US Senate has confirmed Indian-origin Kash Patel as the new head of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The Republican-controlled Senate has confirmed Kash Patel in a 51-49 vote. Kash Patel thanked US President Donald Trump after being elected as the FBI chief.
Patel wrote on social media that the politicization of our justice system has eroded public trust – but that is ending today.
Patel (44) served as an advisor to both the then US Secretary of Defense and the Director of National Intelligence during Trump’s first term in the White House. He also serves as a federal public defender and federal prosecutor.
Known as a close ally and loyal to Trump, Patel has been an outspoken critic of the FBI. He has strongly promoted the idea that a ‘deep state’ (state within a state) exists in the United States.
Kash Patel has a book called ‘Government Gangsters’. In it, he writes against the Deep State. Supporters of Trump’s agenda around the FBI and the US Justice Department supported Cash Patel in the election.
Patel has promised to dismantle the Deep State and completely overhaul the FBI.
