BNP’s Central Joint Organizing Secretary Barrister Mir Helal said:
“The mob culture being created in the country today is a continuation of the fascist Hasina’s terror and mob violence. The BNP is a political party that believes in pluralism. Our leader, the martyred President Ziaur Rahman, is the architect of Bangladesh’s multi-party democracy. We neither support nor condone any wrongful actions. Criticism is your right, but let me give a clear warning — if we see any further actions that breach decency and etiquette, we will build resistance from Chittagong. Our leader Tarique Rahman has urged us to be patient and practice restraint. That is why we are observing the situation with great patience and discipline.”
He made these remarks on Tuesday (15 July) as the chief guest during a pre-rally gathering organized by the Chattogram Metropolitan Volunteer Wing of the BNP, protesting the deterioration of law and order due to administrative indifference and conspiratorial attempts to destabilize the country. The rally began at the Jamiatul Falah mosque grounds and proceeded through key city roads, ending at Gate No. 2.
He further stated:
“For the past 17 years, there have been countless conspiracies aimed at destroying the BNP and the Zia family. These conspiracies are still ongoing. But we are prepared to face them with the people. Even though some may dislike the sunlight, no one has the power to block it. Tarique Rahman is the sun of Bangladesh. No one but Allah has the power to stop him. Under Tarique Rahman’s leadership, a future self-reliant Bangladesh will be built.”
Senior Joint Vice-President of the Central Volunteer Wing, Yasin Ali, said:
“For 17 years, under the leadership of BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, we have waged a movement to oust the autocratic Hasina — to establish the people’s right to vote and restore democracy. A tough election lies ahead. If the people give the mandate, the BNP will form the government; if not, it won’t. Those who are elected through a fair and acceptable election involving all political parties will govern the country. But we are seeing some political parties spreading false propaganda against the BNP and its Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. Their aim is to tarnish the image of the BNP. But we want to say clearly: the BNP is a party of the people. Conspiracies against the BNP will yield nothing. The BNP resides in the hearts of the people. In the coming days, it is the BNP that will lead the state through the people’s votes. Let me also be clear: there is no place for extortionists in the BNP. If anyone wants to extort, they must leave the BNP and join another party. No wrongdoer will be spared.”
The rally was presided over by Chattogram Metropolitan Volunteer Wing Convenor Belayet Hossain Bulu and moderated by Member Secretary Engr. Jamir Uddin Nahid. Other speakers included Joint Convenors Moinuddin Rashed, Sirajul Islam Bhuiyan, Zahurul Haque Tutul, M. Abu Bakkar Raju, Rajim Uddin Akand, Mohsin Kabir Apel, Rifat Hossain Shakil, Didar Hossain, Harunur Rashid, Golam Sarwar, Abdul Halim Guddu, Md. Alamgir, Kamrul Hasan, N. Mohammad Rimon, Arifur Rahman Chowdhury, Iftekhar Uddin Niblu, and Tajul Islam Nayon.
Leaders from the metropolitan, thana, and ward levels of the Volunteer Wing were also present.
