Jessore continued to experience the lowest temperature in the country on Saturday, with the mercury dropping to 8.8 degrees Celsius at 6:00am. At the same time on Friday, the temperature in the district was recorded at 9 degrees Celsius.

With the lowest temperature persisting for two consecutive days, normal life in the district has been severely disrupted. Although sunlight appears briefly around midday, dense fog and the ongoing cold wave have made it difficult for day labourers to go out for work. Farmers are also heading to their fields later than usual due to the biting cold.

Meanwhile, hospitals have seen a rise in patients suffering from cold-related illnesses as the intensity of winter increases. Many people are seeking medical treatment for fever, sneezing, cough and diarrhoea, with children and the elderly accounting for the majority of patients.

The Meteorological Department has said that night temperatures may rise slightly over the next 24 hours, while daytime temperatures are expected to remain almost unchanged. Due to foggy conditions, the cold sensation is likely to persist in many parts of the country.
