The Ministry of Education has announced that all English medium schools and coaching centers in Bangladesh will suspend their regular class activities starting Monday, March 9, until the government-declared holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr.

The directive was issued on Sunday (March 8) by the Private Secondary-1 branch of the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education.

According to the notice, the decision was taken during a meeting chaired by the Education Minister with representatives from schools operating under foreign curricula, commonly known as English medium schools. The meeting reviewed the ongoing global situation and the need to reduce public inconvenience in major cities, including Dhaka, during the holy month of Ramadan.

Based on the unanimous decision reached at the meeting, all English medium schools will remain closed for regular classes from Monday until the official Eid-ul-Fitr holiday period declared by the government.

However, schools operating under foreign curricula will still be allowed to conduct mandatory examinations according to their previously scheduled timetables.

The directive also states that all coaching centers—both Bangla medium and English medium—must suspend their activities during this period.

The instruction has been circulated to the chairpersons of all education boards, the Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, and district administrators across the country for implementation.
