The International Criminal Tribunal for the prosecution of criminals against humanity has been reconstituted. Justice Md. Abu Ahmed Jamadar has been made the new chairman. Dhaka District and Sessions Judge AHM Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan who is in PRL has been made a new member.
The current chairman Justice M. Shahinur Islam has returned to the High Court Division.
The Law Ministry has issued a notification in this regard on the order of the President on Tuesday.
It is said in the announcement, the chairman of the International Criminal Tribunal, Justice Md.Shaheenur Islam The post of chairman of the tribunal was declared vacant as the Chief Justice expressed his intention to return to the High Court Division from Tribunal. Then the current member of the tribunal, Justice Md. Abu Ahmed Jamadar was appointed as Chairman and District and Sessions Judge (PRL Exercising) A,H,M, Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan was appointed as a member of the Tribunal on cancellation of his PRL. Another member of the tribunal, Justice KM Hafizul Alam, was retained in his post.
The International Criminal Tribunal was formed on March 25, 2010 to try criminals against humanity during the liberation war.
