U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed his disappointment with Russian President Vladimir Putin but made it clear that he hasn’t completely severed ties with him.

In an exclusive phone interview with the BBC on **Tuesday, July 15**, Trump spoke from the Oval Office at the White House.

“I don’t really trust anyone,” Trump said, when asked about world leaders. Speaking specifically about Putin, he added, “I’m disappointed in him, but I haven’t given up.”

Shortly before the interview, Trump announced a plan to supply arms to Ukraine. He warned that **if no ceasefire deal is reached within the next 50 days**, his administration would impose **strict tariffs on Russia**.

Responding to the BBC’s questions, Trump said there had been several chances to reach peace agreements with Russia over the Ukraine conflict, but Putin broke them at the last minute. “We were very close to a deal, and then he bombed a building in Kyiv,” Trump recalled.

When asked about NATO, Trump acknowledged a change in his stance. “There was a time I thought NATO was obsolete,” he said. “But now, I think it has become active in a different way.” He praised member countries for taking more responsibility.

On a personal note, Trump was asked whether he had changed after the **failed assassination attempt** against him a year ago. He replied, “I don’t like to dwell on it. Thinking about it too much can change your whole life.”

Trump also noted that **many European leaders now respect his leadership** and claimed that winning the presidency twice demonstrates his capability. “There’s a unique skill in being elected twice,” he said.

Regarding the United Kingdom, Trump said, “I have a special bond with the UK.” He confirmed plans to make a **second official state visit to Britain in September**, where he intends to pay tribute to **King Charles**.

The conversation also touched on **Canada**, where Trump said discussions are ongoing and expressed optimism: “Talks with Canada are going well.”

When asked how he wants his presidential legacy to be remembered, Trump responded, **“Saving America.”**
He concluded, “I believe America is a great country today. A year ago, it was a dying nation.”
