Vinicius Jr Continues World Cup Brilliance, Overtakes Ronaldinho in Brazil Milestone
Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior delivered another standout performance as Brazil secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Haiti in the FIFA World Cup. The Real Madrid star not only found the back of the net but also provided an assist, reaching a significant personal milestone on football’s biggest stage.
Vinicius opened his World Cup account in Brazil’s tournament opener against Morocco and had previously scored against South Korea during the 2022 World Cup. With his latest strike against Haiti, the Brazilian winger has now scored three World Cup goals in his career.
Vinicius Moves Ahead of Ronaldinho
The achievement sees Vinicius surpass Brazilian football icon Ronaldinho, who scored two goals across his World Cup appearances, both during Brazil’s victorious 2002 campaign.
Remarkably, Vinicius has eclipsed that mark after playing only six World Cup matches, underlining his growing influence for the five-time world champions.
Goal and Assist Highlight Dominant Performance
Against Haiti, Vinicius also played a key role in another goal by setting up Matheus Cunha. The assist took his total World Cup goal contributions to six, comprising three goals and three assists.
This tally places him alongside Ronaldinho among Brazilian players with six direct goal involvements in World Cup history.
Closing In on Another Record
Ronaldinho recorded six goal contributions in 10 World Cup appearances, scoring twice and providing three assists in 2002 before adding another assist at the 2006 tournament.
Vinicius has now matched that total in just six matches, giving him a strong opportunity to surpass another of Ronaldinho’s World Cup achievements as the tournament progresses.
With Brazil advancing confidently and Vinicius in outstanding form, the 25-year-old is emerging as one of the team’s most decisive players and a leading contender to leave a lasting mark on this World Cup.
