FIFA President Gianni Infantino has indicated that U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to take part in the trophy presentation ceremony following the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
According to a Reuters report, Infantino made the remarks during an interview with Fox News on Tuesday. He stated that he plans to attend the final alongside President Trump and jointly present the World Cup trophy to the tournament’s champions.
“We will be with the president, enjoy the final together, and of course present the trophy to the winners,” Infantino said during the interview.
A video clip containing this portion of the interview was later shared by the White House’s official account on social media platform X. However, President Trump has not yet issued a formal statement confirming his attendance at the event.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup final is scheduled to take place on July 19 at a stadium in New Jersey, where the tournament’s champion will be crowned.
There had been some uncertainty regarding whether the U.S. president would attend the final. Although Trump is known for his strong interest in sports and has appeared at several major sporting events, he has not attended any matches involving the United States or other teams during the current tournament.
Trump and Infantino have previously shared the stage at a major football awards ceremony in the United States. During the final of the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup held in the country in 2025, both men participated in the trophy presentation after Chelsea secured a 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain.
If confirmed, Trump’s presence at the World Cup final would add further political and ceremonial significance to one of the most anticipated sporting events in the world.
