India has granted special protocol status equivalent to that of a Union Cabinet Minister to its High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, according to an official memorandum issued by the Government of India on Wednesday.
The memorandum states that the designation has been conferred on Trivedi in a personal capacity, allowing him to enjoy higher-ranking protocol privileges during state and official functions. However, the move does not alter India’s existing Table of Precedence, the official hierarchy used to determine protocol rankings at government ceremonies and formal events.
The document, signed by Under Secretary Kamlesh Ravidas, specifies that Dinesh Trivedi has been accorded the rank of a Union Cabinet Minister solely for protocol and ceremonial purposes. The recognition is limited to official functions and does not represent a permanent amendment to India’s protocol structure.
Officials clarified that the decision is an individual honor and should not be interpreted as a broader revision of the country’s established order of precedence.
India’s Table of Precedence is an official protocol framework that determines the ranking and order of dignitaries, government officials, and constitutional officeholders during state ceremonies and formal occasions.
