Gold Prices Decline for Second Consecutive Day in Bangladesh
Gold prices in Bangladesh have fallen again, marking the second consecutive day of decline. The latest adjustment comes after a drop in international gold and silver prices, prompting the Bangladesh Jewelers Association (BAJUS) to revise local rates.
The new prices took effect at 10:00 AM on Saturday, with the price of 22-carat gold—the highest-quality category in the local market—reduced by Tk 2,216 per bhori (11.664 grams).
Following the latest revision, the price of 22-carat gold now stands at Tk 226,340 per bhori. Before the adjustment, the same category was selling at Tk 228,556 per bhori.
Recent Trend in Gold Prices
Since the Eid-ul-Azha holidays, gold prices in Bangladesh have experienced significant fluctuations. In the weeks following the festival, BAJUS reduced gold prices four times, resulting in a cumulative decrease of Tk 19,771 per bhori.
However, prices later rebounded through three separate increases on Saturday, Monday, and Thursday, adding a combined Tk 14,580 per bhori. The latest reductions on Friday and Saturday have once again pushed prices downward.
Updated Gold Prices
According to the latest BAJUS rate list:
- 22-carat gold: Tk 226,340 per bhori
- 21-carat gold: Tk 216,192 per bhori
- 18-carat gold: Tk 185,691 per bhori
- Traditional gold: Tk 151,690 per bhori
The association stated that these rates will remain effective until further notice.
VAT and Additional Charges
BAJUS clarified that the listed prices already include applicable value-added tax (VAT), meaning jewelers cannot charge VAT separately from customers. However, making charges will continue to apply depending on the design and craftsmanship of the jewelry.
In the proposed national budget for fiscal year 2026-27, the government reduced VAT on gold to help make jewelry more affordable. Under the new proposal, a fixed VAT of Tk 2,500 per bhori has been set, replacing the previous 5 percent VAT structure.
The association also noted that existing rules regarding jewelry exchange and purchases—excluding specific VAT, labor costs, and gemstone charges—will remain unchanged.
Silver Prices Remain Unchanged
While gold prices have been adjusted downward, silver prices have remained stable.
The price of 22-carat silver in the domestic market continues to be Tk 5,249 per bhori. BAJUS said a separate decision regarding VAT on silver jewelry is expected to be announced in the near future.
Market analysts say future price movements will largely depend on trends in the global precious metals market and currency fluctuations, which continue to influence local pricing.
